Mormon sex before marriage

Chastity is sexual purity. Those who are chaste are morally clean in their thoughts, words, and actions. Chastity means not having any sexual relations before marriage. It also means complete fidelity to husband or wife during marriage. Physical intimacy between husband and wife is beautiful and sacred. It is ordained of God for the creation of children and for the expression of love within marriage.

BYU and Mormons in general make the news fairly frequently for sex stuff. So here goes. As I said, premarital sex is still taboo for Mormons. Yet, just as Bowman suggested, the undersupply of men does seem to be loosening Mormon sexual mores. I find it fascinating that this seems to have been going on a long time and perhaps is growing more common today.

From over the wooden pulpit at many Mormon congregations and conferences, church leaders have spoken often about sex — and almost exclusively about chastity. Why not a little freedom? I can transgress now and repent later. You run the terrible risk of such spiritual, psychic damage that you may undermine both your longing for physical intimacy and your ability to give wholehearted devotion to a later, truer love.

Before I was married, one of the more common questions that I received from friends and others interested in the Mormon faith was whether Mormons practiced abstinence before marriage. There is no lasting happiness in immorality. There is no joy to be found in breaking the law of chastity.
